The first expression from the new team behind Old Commonwealth Distillery is a decadent stone fruit stunner.
This exceptional 10-year Kentucky Straight Bourbon (sourced from a heritage distiller) has a mashbill of 75% corn, 15% rye, and 10% malted barley, and comes in at 130 proof. On the nose, you’ll find ample notes of cherry syrup and ripe plums, a touch of honey, marzipan and dark chocolate. The medium-weight whiskey coats your palate nicely, with notes of cherry pie and buttered graham cracker building. There’s a hint of rye spice towards the end of your sip, but the whiskey drinks more like a high-proof wheater. A fast pop of roasted peanuts arrives right before the finish, which is fruity, lucious, and long. Lingering notes of dried tobacco and leather fade, leaving a final note of macerated cherries. Overall, it’s a sumptuous dram.
